Welcome Letter from Vice Principal Charles
Dear Faculty, Staff, and Parents,
I hope this message finds you well and that you're enjoying the start of summer!
My name is Denise Charles, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal at The Obama School. It is a true privilege to join such an accomplished and dedicated school community—one that is known for its commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and fostering a warm, supportive environment.
My journey in education began over 20 years ago first in New York and then in Connecticut. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles across both elementary and high school settings—as a teacher, mentor, coach, and instructional leader. Each experience has deepened my belief in the power of collaboration and the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
What I love most about this work is the opportunity to partner with teachers and families, — because I know that when we work together, we create the strongest foundation for our students to succeed. I’m committed to building open, trusting partnerships with families and to being a visible, approachable presence in our school.
I’m sincerely looking forward to getting to know each of you and working alongside Miss Baker to ensure that Barack H. Obama Magnet University School continues to be a place where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to learn. I believe that when educators work together with purpose and passion, we create the best possible outcomes for our students.
Please know that my door is always open—I welcome your ideas, your feedback, and the opportunity to partner with you in this meaningful work.
With gratitude and excitement,
Denise Charles Assistant Principal Barack H. Obama Magnet University School
